Safe Environment Program

Program Overview
  • The purpose of the Safe Environment Program is to create a safe environment for our children. The Program oversees all aspects of compliance mandated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People; coordinates Protecting Gods Children workshops; assists parishes with Safe Environment Program software; and monitors compliance issues and conducts internal audits at parishes, schools, and agencies prior to the formal USCCB audit.

Requirements of the Program
  •  All Employees and Volunteers who have contact with minors on a regular basis* must:
  1. Attend a Protecting Gods Children Workshop.
  2. Complete Save Environment User Registration. (registration passcode: stlprotect)
  3. Commit to the Code of Ethical Conduct for Clergy, Employees and Volunteers Working With Minors in the Archdiocese.
  4. View two online training modules.
  5. Submit a national background screening authorization and agree to regular updates.

All children in archdiocesan educational programs are encouraged to participate in a “Safe Touch” program. Safe Touch programs are educational programs that teach children how to protect themselves from being sexually abused. Age appropriate programs are being implemented throughout the archdiocese.
